Search engines use a website’s meta fields to drive search results on internet browsers like Google, Bing, etc. Through the Kodaris platform, you can edit the SEO meta fields for your general website, product listings, categories, and content pages.
The two main meta fields are Meta Title and Meta Description.
It’s important to add a meta title and meta description on the pages offering these fields to make your website searchable for your customers. You will want to leverage precise, descriptive keywords and always keep the end user in mind when optimizing your website. For example, if your company sells kitchen appliances, some consumers may search “Fridge” and some may opt to search “Refrigerator”. These terms have the same meaning but pull up different search results based on keywords. When implementing meta fields, be sure to consider various search terms and include them when possible.
When a search result appears on the Google search results page, the meta title is used as the title link for the search result.
Here’s an example of the meta titles in a search for “Refrigerator”.
When a search result appears on the Google search results page, the meta description is used to give the search engine a summary of the page. Search engines will often use this as the description for the search result underneath the result title; although, they may use other content from the page if it better matches the user’s search terms.
Here’s an example of the meta descriptions in a search for “Refrigerator”.
As mentioned, you can edit your website’s meta titles and descriptions for your general website, product listings, categories, and content pages through the Kodaris platform. You do not need a technical background to access or edit these SEO fields. The meta titles and descriptions are easily accessible and can be added or updated at any time.
If, for any reason, you do not apply a meta title and description to an individual product, category, or content page, your website will automatically pull your store’s default SEO configuration. This ensures your website is always SEO-optimized even if you do not manually set individual meta titles and descriptions.
In this example, we will walk through the experience of adding a meta title and meta description to a product listing while using Kodaris.
To do so, you will head to the Products screen and locate the item you wish to optimize. Select the “More Details” button.
Under the Details tab, you will find the SEO section by scrolling down the page. Click into each box and type your desired text. Click out of each box, anywhere on the page, to save your edits.
