Operations PIM - Configure Custom Category Order

  1. Default category order is alphabetical

Currently on your commerce site, the "Shop by Category" dropdown menu and left hand navigation menu shown on the home page are sorted in alphabetical order by default. You have the capability to sort the categories in the order you would like to display them.

  2. Navigate to "PIM"

If you would like to customize your category order, navigate to "PIM" section in the Operations Portal.

  3. Click "Filter Categories"

Then, click "Filter Categories". In order to access and update “Filter Categories” you will need to be set up either as an “administrator” or a “superuser”, or have the roles of: “facetGroupView” and “facetGroupEdit”.

  4. Search "productCategoryNames"

To update the category order, you will need to update the filter category "productCategoryNames" with the desired category order setting. Search to find the filter category.

  5. "Order Values By" column

Look for the "Order Values By" column. In this example, you can see it is set for "nameAsNumber" which orders the categories alphabetically.

  6. Select "categoryOrder"

Double click into the field to update the category order. You can see that there are three different options: "count", "nameAsNumber", or "categoryOrder". Since we would like to order categories in a specific order, we want to choose "categoryOrder".

  7. Go to "Categories"

Once you have updated the setting on the filter category, you are ready to update your categories. To do this, navigate to the "Categories" screen. In order to access and update “Categories” you will need to be set up either as an administrator or a superuser, or have the roles of: “categoryView” and “categoryEdit”.

  8. Click "Data"

    Click the "Data" tab.

  9. Use the "Parent Category Code" column

In this example, we would like to order all categories that are under the "Framing" category. To do this, use the "Parent Category Code" column to filter on the "Framing" category.

  10. Look for the "Order" column

Then look for the "Order" column.

  11. Set the order value of each category

Click into the category fields and enter a numerical value to order the categories. The closer the number is to 0, the higher in the order the category will appear on your commerce site.

  12. Go to the commerce site and click the category

To verify the category order, go to the commerce site and click the category that was updated.

  13. Categories are now set numerically by order value

Verify that the categories have updated correctly.
