Operations PIM - Configure Your Attribute Order (Import)

  1. Attributes ordered by "Count"

Depending on how you would like your customers to find products, you will want to arrange your attributes in a specific way on the commerce website. By default, attributes are programmed to display by count. You also have the option to order your attributes alphabetically by name or by category order. In this documentation, we will cover how to configure your attribute order by import.

  2. Navigate to "PIM"

In order to do this, you will need to navigate to "PIM" in the operations portal.

  3. Click "Filter Categories"

Click "Filter Categories". In order to access and update “Filter Categories” and “Attributes” and update data by import, you will need to be set up either as an “administrator” or a “superuser”, or have the roles of: “facetGroupView”, “facetGroupEdit”, and "importView".

  4. Click show/hide icon

Click on the "Show/Hide Columns" icon and choose the columns that are needed for your import.

  5. Choose needed columns

When updating the order setting by import on this screen, the required columns are "Code" and "Order Values By". In this case, we are exporting: Code, Order Values By, and Name.

  6. Click "File"

    Click "File".

  7. Select "Export"

Select "Export". This export will have the header row for importing data back into the system when using this screen.

  8. Name export

You can choose to rename your export by clicking into the field and typing the name.

  9. Click "Save"

Click "Save" to save the file to your computer. If you are exporting a large amount of data, it may take a small amount of time to complete the export. The file will download and save to your computer.

  10. Header row

You can see in this sample export, you now have the header row that is needed to import data and also the data from the filter category grid.

  11. "code" = product code

The "code" column contains the filter category code. When importing filter category data, the code is required as it is the identifying factor for matching information.

  12. "name" = name of filter category

The "name" column contains the name of the filter category - while not required for importing, it can be a helpful reference when updating data. You can also make any needed updates to the names, and update with this import if needed. If you do not wish to update the "name" data, then just remove the column before importing - or you can add an extra character to the name header, and the column will not update with the import.

  13. valuesOrderBy = attribute order setting

The "valuesOrderBy" column is for the attribute order setting. You can update filter categories with count, nameAsNumber, or categoryOrder. You can update all filter categories to have the same setting, or filter categories can have different settings.

  14. Updated spreadsheet

Enter the settings you would like to use in the "valuesOrderBy" column. Once you have updated the export, be sure to save as .CSV file which is spreadsheet compatible and your file is ready to import. Be sure the spreadsheet you are using only contains the data that you would like to update by import. If you remove data from a cell, the data imported into the system will be blank for that field on that filter category.

  15. Click "File"

To import your updated spreadsheet, click "File".

  16. Click "Import"

    Click "Import".

  17. Select "Update Only"

Since we only want to update the order settings at this time, choose "Update Only".

  18. Uploading spreadsheet

Once you click "Update", you will be prompted to choose and upload a file from your computer. Choose the .CSV file you would like to import. Please be sure that you select the correct file. An import message will appear letting you know that the import file is in process and to check back in a few minutes for the imported data. After the import has completed, you can verify the changes on the commerce site.

  19. Attributes ordered by "Count"

You can see in this example, the filter category of "Type" has been configured with the "count" setting and attributes with the most products will be displayed first.

  20. Attributes ordered by "Name"

In this next example, the filter category of "Type" has been configured with the "nameAsNumber" setting, and attributes are ordered alphabetically by name.

  21. Verify attribute order

In this final example, the filter category of "Type" has been configured with the "categoryOrder" setting, and attributes can then be custom ordered by entering a numerical value allowing you to precisely control the order you would like your attributes to be displayed. Note: Once you have configured filter categories with this setting, you will need to update the attribute order with a numerical value in order for the update to reflect on the commerce site.
