You can use Attributes and Filter Categories as a useful method for a customer to refine the selection of products when viewing a traditional product category on your website.
Attributes appear under Filter Categories in the sidebar. An Attribute is an invisible category created only to be used in combination with a Filter Category. For instance, an attribute category of “12 in” would contain products with the attribute of “12 in.” When selecting that attribute under the Filter Category, the product selection on the page will filter to show only the products that have the “12 in” attribute. Therefore, Filter Categories do need to be created before creating Attributes.
You can view Attributes and Filter Categories on the image below.
Once you have created Filter Categories, you can create Attributes.
As you can see, this is a new Filter Category without any attributes. To add any attributes to this Filter Category – click the "+” button and enter the attribute information.
As you can see, the attribute has been added to the Filter Category. Add as many attributes you would like to each Filter Category – just remember to create them in the appropriate Filter Category.
You can also create and edit attributes in the Products section of the PIM Portal using this same process.
